The cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, who became one of the celebrities of the world music scene since the 1950s, left the USSR in 1972. Defender of Solzhenitsyn, before he was expelled from the country for publishing The Gulag Archipelago he moved to Paris and Washington after being deprived of his citizenship by the Soviet authorities. This film evokes this extraordinary story from rare archives and testimonies of his family and friends.
