More than 900 guests from Montreal and Laval came to celebrate Russian winter carnival Maslenitsa, organized by the Canadian foundation of Russian culture on February 22nd at Cosmodome. Kids and their parents enjoyed the concert performed by the artists of all ages, walked around the crafts fair and played the outdoor games, accompanied by the clowns (skomorokhi). People were having fun pulling the rope, jumping in bags and playing hockey with brooms!
The workshops of acrobatics, fencing, dance and art, the adventure game “Searching for the Lady Maslenitsa” were organized inside the museum of Cosmodome. The partners of the event – Royal Bank of Canada, Cosmodome, A-Maze project and others offered exceptional prizes for the lottery. To fasten the coming of spring, each of the two sessions of Carnival culminated with the traditional burning of the Lady Maslenitsa accompanied by the accordion.
The amusement “My first pancake” attracted a big line of kids (and not only) to try their cooking skills. A lot of people also lined to taste ready-made pancakes – 1000 blinis were eaten during the event!
The General Consul of Russia Y.Bedzhanyan visited Maslenitsa with his family and wished in the guest book “to have more often such joyful events, supporting Russian traditions and Russian spirit”.
